Portland Buy Local honors eight indie businesses

Portland Buy Local held its fourth annual Indie Biz Awards ceremony last night and added to the resumes of eight area businesses or operations. According to Portland Buy Local, the awards aim to recognize “leaders among Portland‘s vibrant independent business community.”

The independently owned businesses recognized were each given an award with a unique title, reflective of the business quality being highlighted (to varying degrees of specificity).

The awards were titled and given to (drum roll, please):

  • Soul of Portland: Longfellow Books
  • Flavor of Portland: Silly’s Restaurant
  • Portland’s Best Kept Secret: Lucid Stage
  • Environmental Hero: Portland Farmers Market
  • Community Hero: Sebago Brewing Company
  • The Business with No Front: Portland Farmers Market
  • Global Hero: Coffee By Design
  • Best New Business: Athlete’s Touch
  • Portland Icon: Micucci Grocery & Wholesale Foods
If you’re scoring at home, Micucci Grocery and Coffee By Design have claimed Indie Biz Awards in each of the ceremony’s four years, and the Portland Farmers Market has garnered some honor or another in all but the 2008 party.
