Flu clinic at City Hall Wednesday

City Hall is playing host to its last flu clinic of the fall, for those above the age of 18, Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Seasonal flu shots cost $10, or free for folks with a Medicare Part B card. If getting one shot doesn’t make readers giddy about the opportunity, here’s a bonus offer: Pneumococcal pneumonia vaccines will also be available for $45.

As luck would have it, I’m watching a show on the History Channel, in part, about the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-19 as I’m writing this.

Here’s a blurb from the city’s news release on the importance of getting flu vaccinations:

As many as 36,000 adults in the U.S. die from seasonal influenza and its complications every year. Vaccination against both flu and bacterial pneumonia (pneumococcal vaccine) are essential to protect the health of seniors and others with chronic health conditions. Vaccinations reduce health care costs by limiting expensive therapies and unnecessary hospitalizations and decrease the spread of disease in the home, workplace, and community.
