Portland ballot roundup: Leeman, Holton, Cleaves win races

District 4 City Council incumbent Cheryl Leeman cruised to re-election today with 71 percent of the votes, defeating challenger Ezekiel “Zeke” Callanan, who came in with almost 29 percent.

Leeman, who is in her 27th year on the council, garnered 2,771 votes to Callanan’s 1,124.

The only contested school board race saw Elizabeth Holton (8,736 votes, 60 percent) claim an at-large seat victory over Josephine Okot (5,747, 40 percent).

Bradford Cleaves takes the victory in a contested race for a spot on the Portland Water District board of trustees, with 9,111 votes (68 percent) compared to John Safarik’s 4,351 (32 percent).

Uncontested District 5 council incumbent John Coyne, and unchallenged school committee candidates Justin Costa (District 4) and Marnie Morrione (District 5) were also victorious, unsurprisingly.
