Jamieson, Gorden in line to join County Commission

Neil Jamieson, who maintained a slight edge in a closely contested three-way race early Wednesday morning, and Stephen Gorden are lined up to become Cumberland County Commissioners as the board expands from three to five members.

County voters in November 2010 approved a plan to grow the panel by two members.

In the newly aligned District 1 seat, Jamieson claimed 2,929 votes (38 percent), a narrow advantage over Lisa Villa (2,681 votes, 34 percent) and Annalee Rosenblatt (2,176 votes, 28 percent). District 1 consists of the municipalities of Baldwin, Bridgton, Gorham, Harrison, Scarborough, Sebago and Standish.

In the new District 3 seat – Brunswick, Freeport, Gray, Harpswell, New Gloucester, North Yarmouth and Pownal – Gorden walked away from Election Day with a more comfortable lead in his race against Mark Grover.

Gorden garnered 6,349 tallies (58 percent) compared to Grover’s 4,557 (42 percent).
