City prepares Portland residents for disposal of trees, holiday trash

The city of Portland got out ahead of the issue of holiday clean-ups, releasing a notice last week about curbside trash pickup schedules, where to leave Christmas trees and what packaging is considered recyclable.

Bookmark this blog post for your late December, early January housekeeping purposes.

Specifically, here’s the city announcement:

This holiday season, Portland Public Services crews will collect curbside trash and recycling as usual with no changes to the schedule. Crews will collect trash and recycling Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2. Residents are asked to place their items out by 6:30 a.m. for collection.

Christmas trees can be left for collection on your normal trash day between December 26th and January 20th.  Trees can also be dropped off at one of the following locations during the month of January: Cutter Street parking lot, Payson Park Little League Field and the nine-hole golf course lot on Riverside Street. Please note that wrapping paper is recyclable, and Styrofoam packaging is not.
