Don Campbell Band plays free Christmas show for a good cause

Get your seats early today — Maine’s Don Campbell Band is playing a free Christmas show at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center. The band is playing on the strength of their second Christmas CD [A Don Campbell Christmas: Vol. 2], and in support of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.

It’s free to get through the door, but the goal is to collect donations for the hospital, so bring some money for the proverbial jar.

The band’s new CD has a lineup of holiday classics, but it also has a couple Don Campbell originals: “The Snow at Arlington” and “Christmas Lights.”

Campbell, for those who don’t know, is among the best known artists in Maine, having shared the stage with the likes of Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Randy Travis, Keith Urban, Merle Haggard, George Jones, America, Three Dog Night and Shawn Colvin, among others.

In short, a free Christmas concert by this guy and his band is a real treat.

Opening tonight is the light-hearted Maine Hysterical Society. The show starts at 5:30 p.m., and I think the doors open at least a half hour earlier than that — although I imagine this place will be packed to the rafters, so even though it’s brisk out, you might want to be at the scene even earlier than that.
