In addition to returning Chairwoman Carol Morrissette to her seat on the city’s Planning Board, the City Council this week dutifully filled vacancies on the board by naming structural engineer Timothy Dean and attorney Patrick Venne as the city’s newest planners.

Venne has represented both developers and neighborhood groups in his capacity as a lawyer, and is a part-time writer about development and urban planning for Portland Monthly magazine. In his letter seeking appointment to the board, he wrote to city officials that he has a collection of newspaper articles and architectural renderings related to “every major development Portland has seen since the mid-1980s, including some information dating back to the late 1970s.”

So it’s fair to say he’s interested in this stuff.

Dean claims more than three decades of work in civil and structural design and engineering work, most recently with the firm Pinkham & Greer. His long resume includes stops with other outfits as well, such as Platz Associates, Structural Design Consultants, Riley Stoker Corp., United Engineers & Constructors and Bechtel Power Corp.

The terms for Morrissette, Venne and Dean last until 2015.

Similarly, the council at its Monday night meeting, followed the recommendations of its nominations committee by reappointing attorney Kelly McDonald to the Police Citizen Review panel and naming former commercial fisherman Matthew Tarasevich to the Portland Fish Exchange committee
