Fundraiser set for Biddeford man left paralyzed by crash

Our friends at the Portland television station WCSH 6 are reporting that Alex Paul of Biddeford, who was riding a minibike when hit head-on by a car in the Saco Industrial Park, is the beneficiary of a fundraiser dance scheduled for Saturday night.

The St. Patrick’s Day dance will be held at the Rochambeau Club in Biddeford, and it gets underway at 8 p.m. Admission is $10, with the proceeds to help out Paul and his family, which has been overwhelmed with medical bills since the November accident.

The crash left Paul, 22, a quadriplegic, and as WCSH’s Shana Therrien reports, he now “faces a lifetime of rehabilitation.”

The Paul family has also set up a HelpHOPELive website for donations, if the holiday dance doesn’t fit into your plans. According to the website, Alex is now down at the New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center at Boston Medical Center. The family’s entry goes on to add:

While Alex benefits from employer provided health insurance, he still faces significant out of pocket expenses for deductibles and co-payments. Add to this the expenses not covered by insurance such as home modifications and a handicap accessible vehicle to allow him to travel to outpatient rehabilitation appointments when he is discharged.
