Former longtime state lawmaker and Portland historian Herb Adams is scheduled to lead a walking tour of the Eastern Promenade on Saturday morning, from 9 a.m. to noon. (The following day is the rain date.)

The cost of the tour is $5 for members of the organization Friends of the Eastern Prom, and $10 for the general public. Contact the group at info@easternpromenade.org for reservations or more information. Here’s a teaser, provided by the Friends:

Over 200 years of Portland’s history and heritage are reflected on the Eastern Promenade. From the city’s oldest earthworks in Fort Allen to its newest memorial, the 9/11 Monument, the Eastern Prom symbolizes Portland’s story as it has fronted the sea and faced changing times. From Mowatt’s bombardment in 1775,  to P.O.W. graves from the War of 1812, to World War II shipyards, from forested hilltop to tourist mecca and Maine’s tallest buildings, the Eastern Prom has seen it all.
