Portland police giving away bike helmets Wednesday afternoon

Something of note here for young bicycle riders in Portland came in this afternoon from City Hall — this event will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow in the Preble Street Extension parking lot (where the Back Cove Trail begins near Hannaford):

Tomorrow, the city of Portland Police Department will hold a Bike Helmet Giveaway for Portland children (limited number of helmets available). Young riders can pick-up a helmet, register their bike and learn some important bike safety tips from local police officers. A number of fun and free activities will also be available to local youth including a bike rodeo and the Dunk-a-Cop tank.
