South Portland council joins Portland, Bangor in endorsing same-sex marriage

The campaign backing a Question 1 referendum which would allow same-sex marriages in Maine announced this morning that the South Portland City Council has joined the municipal boards officially endorsing a “Yes” vote on the issue.

By a 5-1 tally, the council reportedly approved a resolution reading the following:

The City of South Portland embraces legal equality and fair treatment for all residents, including the freedom to marry. Marriage equality ensures that the same dignity and recognition is bestowed upon all couples residing within the State of Maine.

This comes on the heels of a similar endorsement by the Portland City Council last week, and the Bangor council the week before.
