If you rush to your television on Friday night and turn on Discovery’s Destination America channel to catch the premiere of “Monsters Underground,” you’ll be disappointed.

The scheduled Aug. 22 unveiling of the show, somewhat highly anticipated here in Maine because it features a cave-diving monster-hunting team led by Durham’s Bill Brock, has been “put off to a new date in the near future,” a Discovery publicist told me this week.

Late last month I interviewed Brock, a longtime and passionate Bigfoot researcher, about his new show. You can find that story by clicking here.

Brock had been discovered by the show’s producers through a mutual blogger friend, who recommended his YouTube videos chronicling his Bigfoot hunts. On the new show, Brock is joined by Casey Onik, a doctor with Portland ties, as well as an expert tracker and hunter as he climbs down hundreds of feet into caves seeking proof of legendary beasts like the bat-like Olitiau in Arizona and the one-eyed sloth-like Mapinguari in California.

Brock and his team get to use a bunch of high-tech gadgets in their adventures, such as a DNA dart gun, which I describe a little bit in my previous story, but suffice it to say it’s pretty much what it sounds like.

As for when viewers can plan to watch “Monsters Underground,” that information — beyond the publicist’s “near future” time frame — isn’t immediately available, but I’ll plan to post again as soon as I hear of a new premiere date.
